Operation Well Wish for vets at the Oregon Veterans’ Home
People across the United States and even as far away as Italy are reaching out to Vets at the Oregon Veterans’ Home. Koala Pete is encouraging children to color and send a Koala Pete hug to the veterans.
The Veterans’ Home is offering the opportunity to record a video that will be played for residents on the home’s closed-circuit TV channel. Kelly Fitzpatrick, director of Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs, states that
“With the lockdown protocols that are currently in place to keep our community safe, it has been a tremendous change in the residents’ way of life,” said Kelly Fitzpatrick, the director of Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs, in a news release earlier this week.
“These men and women at our Lebanon Veterans’ Home have borne the battles to keep this nation safe and free. It’s wonderful for so many of the people that they have protected to be remembering them in this challenging time.”
Koala Pete™ introduces Koala Pete™ hugs for vets at the Oregon Veterans’ Home, giving children a way to send a koala hug to the vets. The koala hug is a simple paper doll that a child colors, folds and sends. Just download and print the picture and letter, color, cut, and fold the arms into a hug. Then put in the mailbox. There’s even a place to post a picture of your child with their finished Koala Pete™ hug; and a place for the vets to post their picture with their Koala Pete™ hug.
Today’s activity: Send a Koala Pete™ hug in an unlicked envelope to ATTN: Operation Well Wish, Oregon Veterans’ Home, 600 N. 5th St., Lebanon, OR 97355. Videos may be emailed to ODVAInformation@odva.state.or.us.
