My Tinker Bear™’s Treasure Box & Childhood Home

My Tinker Bear™ has a special treasure box filled with inspiring memories that keep him motivated and cheerful when times are troubled. He takes a few minutes Friday afternoons to pull out an item that brings back warm memories from times past to give him hope for the days ahead.

Welcome to this week’s episode of My Tinker Bear™: Family Story Teller. Everybody’s fun and easy ways to tell your story your way, no matter how busy–or clumsy–you might be. We provide the inspiration, you provide the memories. Together we create one-of-a-kind keepsakes.

At the end of a busy week, My Tinker Bear™ sits in his chair, turns on his music, pours himself a cup of tea, and gently pulls out a memory from his special treasure box.

Today he finds a picture of the house he grew up in. Attached to the picture is a story about the house. You can read it here.

The picture reminds Tinker Bear™ of the summer his whole family worked on restoring a fixer-upper house that his dad bought for a little extra income. He remembers working hard on that house, scrubbing off the dirt and grime from the former occupants. He remembers, more than 40 years later,  how hot and tired he was, sweating and thirsty, dead tired in the California summer heat. Next door he watched the neighbor lying on her beach towel with a cold glass of lemonade suntanning for several hours every day, lazily turning from her front to her back. That was the summer he decided never to bask in the summer sun. A promise he made to himself and has kept all these years.

Now it’s your turn . . .

Tell me about the house you were born in.  When and where were you born? What was happening in the world at the time?

If you have little ones at home, you might like to create a Teddy Bear shoebox house for your Tinker Bear™ like this one.

Here’s a simple pull out style DIY Memory Box you can make in about 30 minutes. It would be a good idea to have a box to store your printed photos so you can easily find them when you need them.

Next week My Tinker Bear™ will be remembering his school days. You won’t want to miss it because he loved school.
